Well, let’s see, the way the story goes, the Conservatives of the GOP are pro-military sorts, right? And those pinko-commie Democrats never take care of the folks in uniform?  Is that the story?  It always seems to be at election time and I saw a bumper sticker last night reading “Veterans for McCain.”

GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK?!

Have those folks looked at the voting record of the main line GOP Congressional Creatures?  Really looked instead of listening to sound bites?   Because really, so far as I am concerned you only need to look at this week as a major example of how well the “conservatives” take care of the troops, how they “support” the troops.

First off, early in the week, the Pentagon announced that they were going to run so short of cash as to not be able to PAY the military (and one presumes retirees) after June 15 of this year…..if Congress didn’t pass the war funding bill.  Now, see, silly me, I would think the war was funded out of a different cash box than the routine military matters like pay?  John Murtha thought so, too and sounded a gong on the Pentagon’s little “Oh, poor us” cry.

But Congress did indeed get to work on that war funding bill and now it is apparently no closer to being passed.  What is the hold up?  Well, the GOP members AND some name-only Democrats (referred to as Blue dog democrats?! — not, btw, what I call them) won’t vote yes because there is too much money for the wrong things in that bill.  What kind of wrong things?

Oh, a little provision that every returning war vet should get one year of state-college paid for each year in the combat zone.  And unemployment insurance for vets.  Gee, imagine the outrage there; I mean you would think it a BAD thing to keep war vets off the streets and in school to prepare for the rest of their civilian life ?

Yes, this is how the GOP supports the troops and the vets.  They plead poverty—yes, they will vote for money for bombs, planes and bullets—-but the men and women who made it all work, well, screw them.  And IF Congress manages to pass this bill on some compromise?  Bush has promised to VETO it if it includes benefits for vets.  Nice guy, eh?  Supporting the troops rights to be uneducated, unemployed and possibly homeless.

Even with a military upbringing, military service and military spouse-hood, I just don’t have enough bad words to describe this behavior.  Yeah, vote for McCain; and BEND OVER. (Why, oh why, is there not a special ’sarcasm font’?)

And yes, the GOP “compassionate conservatives” can kiss my ass!kissit.jpg

The Washington Post has the story…read it and swear. http://tinyurl.com/6bseve

Oh come now, you demean the efforts of the Republicans to honor our troops. Why, just last week it was reported that our Dear Leader, President George W. Bush, has made the ultimate sacrifice in order to honor our men and women in uniform. He has… shudder… GIVEN UP GOLF!

    Alrighty, then.

Yeah, wasn’t that special? I think I’d like it better if he gave up breathing….held his breath until the war was “won” or something. But, I do have these impossible high standards for my “war presidents” and all. I just get bitchy that way!
